Short CoursesThe Institute for International Health & Development (Queen Margaret University College, Edinburgh) offers a number of short courses each year designed to meet priority needs for individuals and agencies working in the field of international health. The majority are approximately 5 weeks in duration. Modules include: Psychosocial Intervention with War-Affected Populations, Displaced Persons & Refugees, Gender, Health & Development and HIV & Development. The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine offers a number of short courses for individuals who want to develop a special interest or do not have the time to undertake a year's study. MSc Programme Teaching Units and other short courses such as the Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene are offered. Some of these courses do have certain requirements. Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine offers Postgraduate Diplomas, Certificates and Short Non-University Accredited Courses. The Diploma & Certificates cover areas such as Humanitarian Studies, Tropical Community Medicine & Health and Medical Microbiology The Harvard School of Public Health run an Intensive Course in Health and Human Rights. The 4-day course helps professionals acquire the skills and knowledge they need to successfully incorporate a human rights framework into their daily activities. Participants will acquire an understanding of both the history and present status of international human rights and international humanitarian law as they apply to public health practice. For more information click here. RedR-IHE is an international NGO that provides recruitment, training and support services for humanitarian professionals across the world. RedR London and International Health Exchange merged in 2003. RedR-IHE runs an extensive range of training courses for relief workers of all disciplines. The courses are widely recognised by humanitarian aid agencies and can also count towards formal schemes of Continuing Professional Development. A full list of the courses and workshops offered by RedR's around the world is available here Also see their websites (International & London) The International Center for Advanced Studies in Health Science and Services (ICAS), part of the University of Ulm, Germany, offers a number of short training courses for "the experienced medical doctor or health professional who wants and needs to update skills and knowledge in a particular field of concern."
