Organisations for health students Medsin UK is the UK organisation for health students who raise awareness of and take action on global health issues. They are currently active in 32 UK medical schools. The International Federation of Medical Student Associations is an 'independent, non-governmental and non-political federation of medical students‘ associations throughout the world.' It brings together 92 national organisations, representing 2 million students worldwide.The International Pharmaceutical Students' Federation represents approximately 350,000 students from over 90 different countries. The objective of IPSF is to study and promote the interests of pharmaceutical students and to encourage international co-operation among them. Organisations for health professionals Medact is a health professionals’ charity taking action on key issues in global health today. First founded in 1951 during the Korean War, it is committed to putting health at the centre of policy debates on conflict, poverty and the environment.RCN advice for nurses considering overseas work. Idealist.org Action Without Borders links up thousands of not-for-profit organisations, events and volunterring opportunities. The International Health Medical Education Consortium is a US-based organisation which has advice and guidance for those interested in global health careers. www.oneworld.net is a huge site with plenty of information about global health, global health organisations and has a section listing opportunities. Medics Travel: Comprehensive site listing thousands of hospitals worldwide and advice for those planning overseas work. The Tropical Health and Education Trust facilitates the training of health workers in developing countries and strengthens health institutions. It works through partnerships between UK-based hospitals and other hospitals around the world. Read more about THET and the NHS Links Programme here. OPT IN is an example of one of these programmes, working with partners in Uganda, Guyana and Bangladesh. Affiliated to the British Association of Urological Surgeons, UROLINK have helped establish and maintain many links between urology departments in the UK and the developing world.
