Dear all,

I am writing on behalf of a group of healthcare workers and students. You will
be aware that earlier this year, Lee Jong-wook, the director general of the
World Health Organisation died. His successor will be elected in in early
November. The process is undemocratic and lacks transparency. For example,
only 34 out of 192 member countries are able to vote. Deliberations take place
behind closed doors and debate is not encouraged. A collection of articles
detailing the problems with the current system can be found at
www.medsin.org/ghap/helpnow.

We are collecting signatures for an open letter highlighting the inadequacies
in the election process. The letter is attached. It will be delivered on
November 8th to the health ministries in all 192 WHO member countries. Please
email endorsements, either personal or organisational, to who4who at medsin.org.
We would be grateful if you could forward this message to friends you feel
would take an interest.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Yates
