NEWS...
Want to work abroad?
Recent upheavals in how doctors are trained seem to have made it more
difficult for trainees to get time out of their programmes to work in
developing countries. The British Medical Association is concerned and has
recently called a meeting with the Royal Colleges and Deaneries to explore
the issues. In Alma Mata, we are collecting and passing on (anonymously, if
necessary) the experiences of those affected. If you are a junior doctor
and have been told that time out of your speciality training programme is
not allowed or have had an application rejected, please get in touch with us
as soon as possible. Email: emilyspry at gmail.com.
Global health closer to home
THET (Tropical Health and Education Trust) helps to forge long term links
between health institutions in developing countries and their counterparts
in the UK. There could already be a link project where you work. To find
out, visit the THET website and use their UK links search. www.thet.org.uk
Alma Mata website rebirth
After a glorious few years, the Alma Mata website is in need of a new lick
of paint. Over the next few months, the Alma Mata website is going to be
reborn. We will soon be asking for your input on what you would like from
the website, as it's our main tool for providing a network for global health
enthusiasts so have a think about what you would find useful.
