to Health Links and THET activities. The e-bulletin will be circulated every month.

FUNDING AND COMPETITIONS
International Engagement Awards - The Wellcome Trust is providing support for public
engagement with health research in developing countries, with awards of up to £30,000
available. The International Engagement Awards aim to strengthen the capacity of
researchers and communicators in developing countries to facilitate public engagement
with health research. Partnership projects are also welcomed, and the grants are
awarded for a maximum of three years. The first deadline for applications is 25

Beit-THET Programme fund for Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe - Watch this space for
details to be published soon about a new collaboration between the Beit Trust and
THET. Programme funds of £1,000 will be made available for Doctors who plan to build
health capacity in Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe through Health Links. Your Health
Link's details must be fully completed on the THET database in order to apply.
Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) International Development Award - To
enhance physiotherapy through international education and development projects.
The deadline for the first round of applications this year is 1st March 2008. Follow

Assisting the learning of Nursing, Midwifery, and Medical Assistant Students - Teaching-aids
at Low Cost (TALC) has developed a programme to help distribute books to students
who want to study independently. TALC believes that if, during training, students
extend their knowledge and solve problems with the use of books, they are likely
to do so when trained. TALC would welcome contact with UK Link coordinators who

WORKING OVERSEAS - VACANCIES
Edna Adan Maternity Hospital, Somaliland - was the first hospital in Somaliland
where THET sent a team of nine people for two weeks to assist when the hospital
first opened to the public in March 2002. Since then, the hospital has seen and
treated tens of thousands of patients, delivered thousands of babies and the hospital
continues to train nurses and midwives. However, a problem continues to be the shortage
of trained nurses and midwives who can help teach and train students. If you can
