Dear All

The Government has published its long-awaited response to the Crisp Report on Global
Health Partnerships. THET and many individual Health Links were deeply involved 
in working with Lord Crisp on his review, and have been lobbying Ministers and officials
since. The response is broadly good news. For example, there is a commitment to 
finance a UK Centre for international Health Partnerships, for which competitive
 bids will be sought from interested organisations. There is a commitment to a grants
scheme for Health Links worth £1.25 million per year for three years, and to an 
independent evaluation of Health Links that will influence the priorities of the
 grants scheme. The Government has found a pot of money to pay for the continuing
pension entitlements of NHS staff working overseas for prolonged periods (eg via
 VSO).

What remains uncertain is the timing of implementation - we may all need to keep
 the pressure up on that.
